Washington College provides high-quality computing facilities, an environment which encourages the sharing of information, and access to local, national, and international information. The College provides its network, computing facilities, information databases, and Campus-Wide Information System in support of academic mission and administrative functions. All computer systems, interconnecting communications lines, and hardware that are the property of Washington College and all Internet Protocol addresses that are in the Washington College domain constitute the Washington College Network. Approved uses of the Washington College Network include, but are not limited to, educational applications, administrative information exchange, presentation and promotion of the College to external audiences, research, faculty/staff professional development, and College-sponsored community outreach. Additionally, if the information you seek is not found within these web pages, Washington college faculty, staff and students may call ext. 7777 for assistance. Operators will take your call and a technician will get back to you as soon as posible. Be ready to give as much information about your problem as you can in order to make for a more efficient response! The following guidelines apply to ALL faculty, staff, students, and authorized guests of Washington College who use the Washington College Network and to ALL the Web and information servers operating on the Washington College Network. Infractions of these guidelines are to be reported to the Director of the Office of Information Technologies for investigation and referral to the appropriate officers of the College. User Guidelines Washington College's Network may not be used for profit-making ventures, on behalf of external organizations or persons, unless such use is directly related to Washington College courses, to faculty/staff research or professional activities, or to College sponsored community service. Nor may the Washington College Network be used for any activity, including political activities, that would jeopardize the College's tax exempt status. Academic and other institutional use always takes precedence over recreational and non-institutional system use. All individuals using the college facilities are required to refrain from publishing or utilizing materials that violate applicable copyright laws and are required to abide by all relevant software license agreements. Only legally licensed software is permitted on the Washington College Network. Materials licensed to the College by their owner for use by members of the Washington College community may not be redistributed by any method. Seeking to gain knowledge of another person's passwords or seeking to gain unauthorized access to systems on the Washington College Network (both College-owned and personally owned), or at other host institutions, constitutes grounds for disciplinary action. Disguising one's identity by using another person's name when sending electronic mail to others or postings to a public forum is falsifying information and subject to disciplinary action. Individuals utilizing the Washington College Network to access systems and services at other institutions are required to abide by the appropriate use policies of those host institutions. Washington College reserves the right to approve all network services originating in the washcoll.edu domain. Persons interested in providing network services (e.g. gopher servers, WWW servers, FTP servers, chat servers) may do so only with written permission of the Director of the Office of Information Technologies. All electronic communications on the College Network must clearly identify the author. Published documents within the College domain must contain the following disclaimer statement: Postings to the Washington College Campus-wide Information System by individuals and student organizations reflect their own thoughts, interests, and activities; they do not implicitly or explicitly represent official positions and policies of the College. The personal page Information Provider assumes responsibility and liability for the content of their documents. Please address all comments and other feedback to the Information Provider of the page. The use of personal information on Web pages is restricted by federal, state, and local laws and the College standards for print publications. Pictures, video, audio, or personal information of or about a person or persons may not be placed on personal pages without the subject(s) expressed permission. The burden of demonstrating consent is on the Information Provider of the page in which the materials appear. Materials owned by others may not be placed on Web pages without the expressed permission of the owner. Materials published on the Web must be considered protected by copyright unless a disclaimer or waiver is expressly stated. Anyone who posts or displays material that is offensive, libelous, or harassing in nature is subject to disciplinary action, according to the published policies and procedures of the College. Authorized users are not guaranteed the use of the Washington College Network as a public forum or publications medium. The College reserves the right to rescind authorization and to review and/or remove any material from any of its servers at any time. Such actions may occur following violation of the guidelines listed above or when published materials or services use an inappropriate amount of college resources. |
