When
should I rebuild my desktop? |
| |
You should rebuild
your desktop whenever any peculiar behavior occurs with your
computer, for example: freezing when you try to open or save
a file, disappearing icons, software corruption, etc... Rebuilding
your destop is comparable to a tune up for your car. It should
be done every now and then, and can prevent and help cure many
problems. |
 |
How
do I rebuild my desktop? |
| |
1. Restart your computer. While it is re-starting,
hold down the Option and Apple keys They are the
two keys directly to left of the space bar.
2. Hold down the Option and Apple keys
the entire time that the computer is re-starting. When it is
almost finished with the start-up process, a window will appear
on the screen that says "Are you sure you want to rebuild
the desktop?"
3. When that window appears, you can let
go of the Option & Apple keys. Hit the Return key or click
OK.
4. A progress bar will appear. This should
take from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes depending on the
speed of your computer, how many files you have and how long
it has been since you last rebuilt the desktop.
