Instructions for using the Chooser to Change Printer
Set-up
 |
Before using the Chooser to change the
printer set-up of your Mac, try printing your document (File
-- Print). This box, or a similar box, should appear:
|
 |
Notice in the
upper right hand corner the word Printer. By clicking
on the little up/down arrows located next to the words Beck Computing Center, you can now select the printer you want if it
is listed. If the printer you want is not listed, you will have
to use the Chooser. This will add the printer to the list of
printers currently set up for the computer. You should only have
to do this once. |
 |
Go up to the
Apple Menu in the upper left hand corner and click on it.
Then, scroll down until you find the Chooser option and
select it. A box will appear, displaying your current printer
set-up. |
 |
Within this main box are three smaller
boxes. In the smaller box located in the upper left corner, select
the LaserWriter
8 icon. Now, in the box located in the lower left
corner, select the AppleTalk
zone to which you want to print.
In the following example, the CAC Classroom is selected.

(*NOTE* Most of our printers, including
the Hewlet Packards, are LaserWriters. However, if you know that
the printer you want is another type, choose that type instead
of LaserWriter 8.)
|
 |
Now, that you have selected your zone,
a list of printers will appear in the box to the right. To select
a printer, click on it to highlight it and then select the button
located underneath, either Set-up
or Create. Once you do this, the computer may go through
a Set-up Procedure and you will see a progress bar. Then, a box
will appear and you may have to select Auto Set-up and then
select the type of printer. If asked to Chose the Type of Printer,
select LaserWriter. Once the printer set-up is complete, hit
OK and a printer icon will appear next to the selected
printer, as seen in the picture below.
Troubleshooting Tip: if you cannot fine the specifit printer you want,
try the Network Service Zone. Many printers, for example, the
Daly 2nd floor are listed there rather than in the zone for the
actual building.
|
 |
You have now
changed your printer set-up. You can close the Chooser, either
by clicking on the tiny button in the upper left corner or by
choosing File and then Close. |

|
You can now print your document by choosing
File and then Print. The printer box will appear. Notice that the
top line now specifies the printer destination of your document.
If you click on the arrows at the top, you will see the list
of printers now set up for this computer
